WHO
WE ARE
The Screen and Treat Research Group, hosted at the Centre for Research in Applied Biology, University of Energy and Natural Resources in Ghana, draws on expertise across multiple disciplines such as clinical chemistry, microbiology, molecular pathology, and public health to promote early disease detection and treatment for vulnerable populations such as women and children, rural folk, commercial sex workers, and extractive communities.

OUR
WORK
Our main goal is to make diagnostics available to vulnerable populations in an equitable manner in order to promote national and global targets related to diseases of poverty. As such, the group is passionate about realizing the promise of molecular diagnostics in Africa: which is the use of techniques in molecular biology for the purposes of prevention, diagnosis, and follow-up or prognosis of disease; and selection, optimization, and monitoring of therapies.
We are delivering this promise by using implementation research to expand access to point-of-care screening services for non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) in vulnerable populations in order to promote universal access to good healthcare, remove the inequalities in accessing healthcare in the broad context of early disease prevention, diagnosis, and effective management.

Thanks to a generous grant from the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, we are currently working to empower women in rural Ghana with access to self-sampling services for the detection of high-risk human papillomaviruses and female genital schistosomiasis. But that is not all. Explore all aspects of what we do to make diagnostics readily available to communities and populations in dire need of them on this site.
