Rationale
Where are we going with this?
In order to ensure the reliability and accuracy of testing and empower labs to participate in international surveillance programmes, a quality system that addresses all aspects of testing is essential. However, establishing and maintaining high-quality testing standards presents major challenges in resource-limited settings. Key among these challenges is a lack of adherence to international standards as a result of inadequate quality management systems (QMS) that focus on achieving quality testing services.
As a consequence of this deficiency, most local laboratories cannot participate in multi-national collaborative surveillance projects where adherence to international standards is mandatory. In view of this, the Screen-and-Treat research group at the Centre for Research in Applied Biology has put together an expert panel of facilitators with vast experience in implementing the WHO-accredited Laboratory Quality Management System in various settings and preparing medical laboratories towards ISO 15189 accreditation.
This course is expected to create awareness about the importance of Quality Management Systems and develop the capacity for implementing quality processes in biomedical laboratories, especially at the primary healthcare level and will improve the capacity of district-level facilities across the country to deliver testing services within a context of quality and to empower communities through increased access to improved laboratory services

The course is intended for healthcare workers with an interest in laboratory services and especially biomedical scientists stationed at district and sub-district laboratories. In addition, student biomedical scientists, technicians, and assistants will also benefit from the course.

The training programme has been accredited with 6 CPD points by the Allied Health Professions Council, Ghana.
